Guess What, Facebook Keeps Deleting One Dad’s Photo Of Him Cradling His Sick Son In The Shower- And This Is Why
A touching photo of a dad cradling his sick son in the shower has gone viral — despite Facebook repeatedly removing it.
Mum Heather Whitten originally shared the picture of her husband Thomas trying to soothe little Fox several years ago.
However, the picture was removed from Facebook numerous times for apparently “violating” its rules, The Sun reports.
The Whittens have four children — Lillian, seven, Leena, four, and two-year-old twins Fox and Persephone — and live in the US state of Arizona.
Ms Whitten, a photographer, wrote on her Facebook page that she took the photograph in November 2014 after Fox, then aged about one, had an attack of vomiting and diarrhoea. He was later taken to hospital with salmonella poisoning.
However, before that, dad Mr Whitten had taken his son into the shower to soothe him.
“Thomas had spent hours in the shower with him, trying to keep his fever down and letting the vomit and diarrhoea rinse off of them both as it came,” Ms Whitten wrote.
“It was a powerful moment for us as parents. As I sat in the shower with the two of them I was just overwhelmed with the scene in front of me. This man. This husband and partner and father.
“He was so patient and so loving and so strong with our tiny son in his lap. His whispers of reassurance to Fox, that he would be OK and that Thomas would take care of him were so steady and so honest.”
The inspiring snap has been shared more than 31,000 times and attracted more than 129,000 reactions on Facebook.
One mum said: “This is what parents do for their babies! This is beautiful the amount of love that is given to little ones and the sacrifices mothers and fathers make.”
Another added: “I personally got tears in my eyes when I saw the love for your son from his father and I think it’s a beautiful picture.”
However, other social media users said the image was inappropriate.
“Wow!!!!!!! I cannot sit here and believe that people actually agree with this photo…… Completely speechless and the sickest thing I ever saw!” one user wrote.
“I’m not going to lie at first I was thinking what in the world, why is this on here. But it is clear that there is more to the story,” another wrote.
Ms Whitten said she thought twice about sharing the picture, worried that it would be misinterpreted. However, she said it was too beautiful not to share.
“I think it would be really powerful to show my son [the picture of] him vulnerable and wrapped up in his father’s arms,” she told Today in the US. “(The photo shows) this is the kind of man that your father is and I hope that [Fox] will see that and never be ashamed or embarrassed by it.”
